SUMMARY:Innovative Green Infrastructure Programs: Benefits\, Challenges\, Opportunities\, and Lessons Learned
DESCRIPTION:via Webinar\n\nTo RSVP for this webinar\, please email info@hudsonriver.org.\n\nConsideration of green infrastructure for stormwater management is a required element for the long-term control plans being prepared to address combined sewer overflows (CSO) in New Jersey and New York. While water quality considerations drive decision-making\, green infrastructure promises to deliver a suite of co-benefits that are not considered as part of the CSO policy but are often more important to community members. In many cases\, green infrastructure is found to reduce the overall cost of a project\, as opposed to using 100% grey infrastructure. The New York City Department of Environmental Protection and Philadelphia Water Department\, working under legal consent orders\, have implemented green infrastructure programs to address CSOs while also providing additional benefits to the community that fall outside of the CSO policy framework (e.g.\, green jobs). The panelists will discuss the challenges of launching innovative programs and their lessons learned to address community needs while meeting regulatory mandates. \nPresentations by: \n\nMarc Cammarata\, Deputy Commissioner of Planning & Environmental Services\, Philadelphia Water Department\nPinar Balci\, Assistant Commissioner\, New York City Department of Environmental Protection\n\nModerated by: \n\nAndy Kricun\, Senior Utility Adviser\, Moonshot Missions and Senior Fellow\, US Water Alliance

SUMMARY:CSO LTCP Review Workshop: Learn how to review your town’s Long Term Control Plan and develop comments
DESCRIPTION:NewarkDIG\, in partnership with Sewage-Free Streets and Rivers and the Jersey Water Works CSO Committee\, is hosting a workshop to help community advocates around the state learn how to evaluate this complex document and develop comments for submission to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). This understanding is also crucial to advocacy organizations helping to spread the word to residents\, business owners\, and other stakeholders about the stormwater infrastructure changes that will be decided upon by the 21 CSO communities this year. \nThe submittal deadline for the final CSO Long Term Control Plans has been postponed 90 days due to the COVID-19 crisis and now must be submitted by October 1\, 2020. Draft plans will be made available to the public for comment before the plans are submitted to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Using a draft of the Newark LTCP\, this workshop will guide participants through the evaluation process with a particular focus on environmental and engineering specifications\, green infrastructure specifications\, local job impacts\, and financial analysis. \nThe virtual workshop is being held on Tuesday\, June 9th\, 2020 from 10 am-noon. \nRSVP for the workshop here.
